Abstract

Methyl Methoxyacetate. Method A.-A solution of 374 g. of chloroacetic acid in 200 ml. of methanol containing 50 ml. of concentrated sulfuric acid was refluxed for six hours. The solution was neutralized with a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate, filtered, and the aqueous layer ex-tracted with ether. The dried ether extract was distilled. The methyl chloroacetate boiled at 126-130', 304.8 g.(717, yield).
