Abstract
In an attempt to prepare E;-nitroisoquinoline, o-nitrobenzalaminoacetal was treated with concentrated sulfuric acid and phosphorus pentoxide, following the method used by Tyson'in the synthesis of substituted isoquinolines. The product isolated from the reaction, however, was not the expected isoquinoline derivative, but 2-(o-nitrophenyl)-oxazole (I).
