Abstract
(enolic) ethyl a-formyl-a-chloroacetate (3.45 g., 0.02 mole) and thiobenzamide (2.74 g., 0.02 mole) were refluxed in absolute alcohol (15 ml.) for one hour. The precipitated sodium chloride was filtered from the hot deep red solution which on dilution with water (15 ml.) and refrigeration deposited a crystalline precipitate.
