Abstract

The 1-(2, 2-dicyanovinyl)-, 1-(2, 4, 4-tricyano-1, 3-butadienyl)-, 1, 6-bis (dicyanovinyl)- substituted 1, 3, 5-cycloheptatriene, and their vinylogs have been synthesized by condensation of 1-formyl-, 1-(2-cyano-2-formylvinyl)-, 1, 6-diformyl-1, 3, 5-cycloheptatriene, and their vinylogs, respectively, with malononitrile mediated with TiCl 4 as a Lewis acid.
