Abstract

The synthesis of 2, 2a, 3, 3a, 4, 5-hexahydro-lH-cyclopent[jkll-as-indacene (11) has been achieved by pyrolysis of the lead salt of the appropriate dibasic acid VI1 and Wolff reduction of the resulting ketone VIII. This tetracyclic hydrocarbon containing three five-membered rings contiguously fused and each fused to the benzene ring shows a marked decrease in the usual aromatic resonance stabilization because of bending in the benzene ring as a ...
