Abstract

Sir: The hydroazulene ring system constitutes the fun- damental carbocyclic skeleton observed in the guaianolide and pseudoguaianolide group of sesquiterpene lactones.' Considerable interest in these lactones has developed since the discovery that many members of this group possess
