Abstract

ω-Nitroalcohols have been prepared by a new and efficient chemio-and regioselective reductive cleavage performed on 2-nitrocycloketones with sodium borohydride in acetonitrile/water. This reaction opens a more practical and convenient route to the synthesis of spiroketals.
