Abstract
Results A series of aryl ethers have been examined to determine the scope of the rearrangement and to obtain information about the mechanism of the reaction. Table I shows the results obtained with six of the aryl ethers that have been examined. This reaction appears to be in a unique class, since prolonged reactions at high temperatures usually produce such a myriad of products that they have no synthetic utility. However, in these ...
