Abstract: Cis-trans isomerizations of maleylacetone, maleylacetoacetate, and similar compounds are catalyzed by enzymes and by silver ion. The possible relations between the two are discussed. Silver ion catalyzed isomerization of maleylacetone proceeds via a nonradical path and without vinyl proton exchange.
