Abstract

Abstract The synthesis of (E, E)-1, 5-cyclodienes is described. The preparation of these ring systems is accomplished by intramolecular coupling of (E, E)-3, 3′-polymethylenebis (allyl bromides), with bis (1, 5-cyclooctadiene) nickel (0). In this way the fourteen, sixteen and eighteen ring can be prepared in good yield. Synthesis of the twelve ring in this manner fails and gives only cyclodimers and acyclic products.
