Abstract

A squarate-based synthesis of ferrocenyl quinones is described. Thermolysis of ferrocenyl- substituted cyclobutenones, prepared from ferrocenyl cyclobutenediones and alkenyllithiums, affords hydroquinones, which furnish, upon oxidation, ferrocenyl quinones.
