Abstract
Irradiations (12-CC14 filter solution, 340-420 nm) of substituted anthracenes with a large excess of cyclohepta-1, 3, 5-triene in various solvents afforded a variety of photoaddition products in moderate yields. These periselective formations are explained in terms of the following controlling factors:(1) orbital interactions,(2) steric interactions.
