Abstract
Detailed kinetic and product studies have been made on solvolysis of α- (pentamethyldisilanyl) benzyl halides (1a-X; X= Cl and Br) and 1, 1, 2, 2-tetramethyl-1, 2- disilaindan-3-yl chloride (2-Cl) in various solvents. The solvolysis of 1a-X at 25° C is characterized by (1) a complete 1, 2-SiMe 3 rearrangement in the products,(2) m (sensitivity to the solvent ionizing power Y x) values of 0.98 (X= Cl) and 0.91 (X= Br) for the solvolyses ...
