Abstract
A new structure is proposed, on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence, for the yellow compound diethyl xanthophanic enol formed when ethyl sodioacetoacetate and ethyl ethoxymethyleneacetoacetate are heated together. A mechanism of formation is outlined and supported.
