Abstract
This study was initiated to determine the usefulness of cobalt polysulfide as a catalyst for the reduction of certain sulfui compounds. It was found that hydrogenation of 2-acylthiophenes in the presence of sulfur and cobalt polysulfide yields alkyl derivatives of thiophene and/or thiacyclopentanes.
