Abstract
Results and Discussion A modified synthetic route to EBA and EBC was developed which is much cheaper and faster than previous methods and givea essentially quantitative yielde (Scheme I). We took advantage of the sensitivity of the eater linkage toward potassium or sodium hydroxide to cleave the Zhydroxypropyl group and saponify the ester simultaneously in l-butanol or 2-propanol to prepare EBA in high yield.
