Abstract

The thermal addition of propylene and higher olefins to maleic anhydride has been the subject of a number of investigations.'The structures of a number of adducts have been established and a mechanism to account for their formation has been proposed. Essentially the reaction involves the transfer of a hydrogen atom from the olefin (donor) to the a, p- unsaturated compound (acceptor) with migration of the double bond.
