Abstract

(TMEDA) was distilled from KOH prior to use. sec-Butyllithium in cyclohexane (1.25 M) and 9- fluorenone were purchased from the Aldrich Chemical Co. The NMR spectra were recorded on a Varian EM360 and/or the University of Chicago 500-MHz spectrometer with tetramethylsilane as an internal standard. Melting points are uncorrected. All new compounds gave satisfactory analyses for C and H within f0. 3%.
