Abstract
Zn the prcsenre of Lewis acid catalysts, mixtures of ethoxgsilanes and acetoxysilanes give good yields of ethyl acetate. Thermal dccomposition of the acetoxydane with the intermediate formation of acetic anhydride does not have a role in the formation of the ethyl acetate. Ferric chloride was a satisfactory catalyst at temperatures as low as 130" while low yields of ethyl acetate were obtained from other catalysts, aluminum isopropylate, p- ...
