Abstract

Pentamethylenetetrazole (VIII) on gas-phase pyrolysis eliminates nitrogen and gives 4- pentenyl-cyanamide (IX). The latter undergoes ring closure to 1-cyano-2-methylpyrrolidine (X). Tetramethylenetetrazole (XII) similarly gives 3-butenylcyanamide (XIII) and 1- cyanopyrrolidine (XIV). Trimethylenetetrazole (XVI) gives nitrogen, ethylene, and a compound C2H2N2, which most likely is N-cyanoformimine, CH2 N CN.
