Abstract
Several a, a-difluoroarylacetic acids have been prepared by reaction of DAST ((diethy1amino) sulfur trifluoride) with esters of a-oxoarylacetic acids and then hydrolysis of the resulting difluoro ester. Examples include the a, a-difluoro derivatives of the synthetic plant auxin, a-naphthylacetic acid, and the antiinflammatory drug, ibufenac.
