Abstract

The bacteriostasis brought about by the sul-fonamides has been attributed to the competitive inhibition by these compounds of a metabolic process involving the essential nutrilite p- aminobenzoic acid. l. 8 Attempts have been made to correlate the bacteriostatic dectiveness of a given sulfonamide with its structural relationship to p-aminobenzoic a~ id.~ I6 It seemed of interest to us to investigate derivatives of p-aminobenzoic acid itself from this point of ...
