Abstract

Background. Piggyback endocytosis is the introduction into cells of a substance that is either mixed or combined with a carrier, which if combined is then removed inside the cell. The carrier may do any or ali of the following:(1) deactivate the compound of interest;(2) facilitate entry into the target cells;(3) prevent entry into other cells or body compartments;(4) prevent entry into cells by simple diffusion.
