Abstract
Why was such a validation necessary? Why could the Reich/Scott mechanism of Scheme 2 not stand on its own feet? The problem was that there was no solid evidence that diradicals analogous to 2 and 3, and the ones implied in the Reich/Scott work, were involved in reactions of simple cyclopropylcarbenes 4 or, most important, in reactions of vinyl-substituted cyclopropylcarbenes. 5 Although it might be argued in Cummins' work on 1 1 that ...
