Abstract

A new reaction of aldehydes and a,@-unsaturated ethers, which is catalyzed by acids to form P-alkoxyaldehydes and 8-alkoxyketones, is reported. These products are readily de- alcoholated to conjugated, unsaturated, carbonyl compounds.
