Abstract

A variety of (substituted) aryl glyoxylates is formed in good to excellent yield under very mild conditions by direct oxidation of the corresponding arylacetic esters or mandelic acid esters with molecular oxygen and N-hydroxyphthalimide/cobalt (II) acetate as catalyst.
