Abstract
CARBONIUM ions,-$-$-, are generally considered to be intermediates in the addition of hypochlorous acid to unsaturated compounds, and stereochemical evidence exists to show that the entering electrophilic chlorine atom can interact, electrostatically or otherwise, with
