Abstract
The benzyltrimethylammonium ion reacted with n-butyllithium in ether-hexane to form mainly the orthosubstitution rearrangement product, usually a considerable amount of a Stevens 1, 2shift product and smaller amounts of another Stevens product, three higher boiling amines, and a displacement product.
