Abstract

By the addition. oftrimethylchlorosilane. whieh reacts with basie by-producrts. the reaction mixturc is kept neutral. This completely prevents base-czatalyzed side reactions such as {t- eliminationi; and Claisen-or Dieckmann-condensati0ns. Trimethylchlorosilane has no ettect, however. on side reactions whieh proceed via Free-radical meehanisms.
