Abstract
Benzylcarbonic p-nitrobenzoic anhydride (IV) and the following substituted benzyl compounds have been synthesized: p-nitro (V), pmethoxy (VI), and 2, 4, 6-trimethyl (VII). The p-methoxy compound was prepared by carbonation of sodium p-methoxybenzoxide, followed by treatment of the carbonate with p-nitrobenzoyl chloride. The anhydrides decompose with heat to yield principally the corresponding esters and carbon dioxide. ...
