Abstract
Several years ago, it was found in our laboratories that bis@-methoxyphenyl) telluroxide (1) functioned as a selective aldol catalyst in boiling toluene.'This reaction appeared to be particularly promising for the condensation of aromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds under aprotic conditions to give products such as 2.
