Abstract

In a synthesis of mesoxalic esters which was discovered by one of us and reported in the American Chemical the red oxides of nitrogen were allowed to act an malonic ester at-10'. The ethyl mesoxalate prsduced was removed by distillation and the residual oil was found to contain a high percentage of nitrogenous esters, having acid properties, and which produced with alcoholic potash a yellow salt.
