Abstract

Numerous supramolecular assemblies involving electron-poor [60]fullerene and electron-rich arenes are known. The electron-rich arenes include hydroquinone, 1 cyclotriveratrylene, 2 and calixarenes. 3 In each case, weak π−π donor−acceptor interactions contribute to the supramolecular assembly, while fullerene−arene van der Waals interactions help to stabilize the resulting complex.
