Palladium mediated ethynylation of iodoarenes coupled with cobalt catalysed alkyne cotrimerisations allows rapid access to benzo[3,4]cyclobuta [I ,2-b] biphenylene, a linear biphenylenoid, and two of its trimethylsilyl derivatives. ...
