Abstract In contrast to earlier reports, It has been found that dibromoperfluoroalkanes actually can react spontaneously with PhOK, yielding fluoroalkyl phenyl ethers as products. Evidence for an anionic chain mechanism involving a bromophilic attack by the phenoxide ion is presented.
