Abstract

Abstract The thioformimidates 4, which may be obtained by S-alkylation of the thioformamides 3, react with chloroacetylchloride/triethylamine to yield the (3 R, 4 S/3 S, 4 R)- 3-chloro-4-methylthio-2-azetidinones 5. Dehalogenation of 5 leads to 6, which undergoes ring closure by the action of mercuric oxide. Treatment of 8, which may be synthesized by chlorolysis of 7, with triethylamine gives also the title compounds 9.
