Abstract
Optically active 1,2-diol monosulfonates have been widely used as precursors for the synthesis of chiral epoxides, 1 chiral ligands 2 and chiral solvating agents. 3 For the synthesis of these compounds, biological methods such as enzymatic esterification 4a,b or hydrolysis 1,4c of the racemic mixtures and selective monosulfonylation 2,3,5 of optically active 1,2-diols have been reported.
