Abstract
The a-alkyl homologues (69-72) of ethyl 5-furyl-4-oxazoleacetates (35 and 45) were easily prepared by mono-and di-a-alkylation on the active methylene group of the oxazoleacetic acid moiety with use of usual metallic bases such as sodium hydride as illustrated in Scheme 11. The esters obtained were hydrolyzed to the corresponding acids (73 and 74).
