Abstract

Esters of carbonic acid are traditionally prepared by the reaction of phosgene with the appropriate alcohol/phenol in the presence of an acid acceptor. Alternatives to the use of phosgene include carbonylation of alcohols' and phenols2 with carbon monoxide and transesterification of ethylene carbonate or certain activated carbonates with alcohol^.^^^
