Abstract

Mixtures of the methylbromosilanes were first prepared by Kochowla by the vapor phase reaction of methyl bromide with copper-silicon masses. This alkyl halide reacts smoothly at about 300'to give a dense liquid condensate from which we have isolated methyltribromosilane, dimethyldibromosilane, and trimethylbromxilane.
