Abstract
Thermally generated aryl nitrenes have been shown to undergo intermolecular aromatic substitutions provided that the nitrene is made sufficiently electrophilic by the introduction of an electron-withdrawing substituent in the aromatic nucleus and the aromatic substrate is sufficiently nucleophilic.
