Abstract

While the dehydration products of a considerable number of tertiary carbinols have been studied, only a limited number of these carbinols have contained the neopentyl group,(CH3) 3CCH2-. Whitmore and Laughlin'studied the dehydration products of several tertiary carbinols having the hydroxyl group attached to a neopentyl group and found rearrangement to the extent of 6 to 25%.
