Abstract

Since the preparation of 5, 5-diethylbarbituric acid (Verona1 or Barbital) by Fischer and von Mering, and the subsequent discovery of its hypnotic properties, a large amount of research has been carried out with a view to securing hypnotics superior to this substance.
