Abstract
MICHAELIS and KOHLER showed that when the phosphonium salts Ph3P* CH2* COR+ X- (R= Me or Ph), prepared by the action of triphenylphosphine on the corresponding a- halogeno-ketones, were treated with aqueous alkali, stable halogen-free compounds were obtained.
