Abstract

Direct synthesis of carboxylic acids through a two carbon atom homologation from organoboranes has been achieved, by the reaction with the dianion of phenoxyacetic acid. It is now pmsible to synthesize alkanoic, alkenoic, or alkynoic acids, from the corresponding alkenes, dienes, or enynes, respectively, via hydroboration.
