Abstract: The investigation of the chromic acid oxidation of a series of dihydroxy acids HO (CH2), CHOHC02H revealed that 2, 7-dihydroxyheptanoic acid (n= 5) reacts entirely differently than other members of the ser, ies. It undergoes a very rapid cooxidation on both functional groups to yield carbon dioxide and the free radical OCH (CH2) &HOH as primary products.
