Abstract

Experimental facts pertinent to the mechanisms in question follow. Solutions of sulfonium adducts Sa-d (see Table I) in CD3N02 underwent rapid sulfide exchange with dimethyl-d, sulfide (90% equilibrated in 3 min at room temperature). In the case of 8c, which is the kinetic product of addition of 1 to 2-methylpropene, rearrangement occurred to give a 2: 1 mixture of regioisomers 8c/M within 4-6 h at rmm temperature in CD3N02.
