Abstract

Abstract A new synthesis of trichloromethyl perfluoroalkanes (RF CCl 3) is described. This is accomplished by reaction of a perfluoroalkyl iodide (RFI) with carbon tetrachloride or bromotrichloromethane and zinc metal, in a chlorinated solvent; the influence of the solvent is discussed.
