Abstract

Starting Materials.-The two alkenes 9-ethylidenefluorene (11) 7 and 9-methylenefluorenes were both unstable to light and air, particularly the latter compound, which is 200 times more susceptible to radical polymerization than styrene. 8 They were prepared and stored in vacuo in a cold dark place.
