Abstract

3p-Hydroxy-5a-pregnan-ZO-one (1 IC).-A solution containing 25 mg of Ilb and 5 ml of 2oj, potassium hydroxide in 98% metha- nol was gently heated at reflux temperature for 3 hr. It was then poured into water, extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with water to neutrality, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After evaporation there was isolated 21 mg (95%) of 3p-hydroxy- 5a-pregnan-20-one (1 IC). Recrystallization from methanol gave the pure sample of Ilc: ...
